Trusted reviews of Doctor and Mechanics.. Not Angie's List

Do you have a go to place for getting trusted reviews for service related occupations like doctors, dentists and mechanics? Angie's list is paid, free is preferable

Friends and personal acquaintances. You have friends with cars right? You have friends who need to see doctors and dentists too. Any free source of reviews by random strangers is going to be worth pretty much what you are paying for it.

I found recommendations for the Car Talk Mechanics reviews on another AskMe - it seems a bit better than Yelp for auto repair.

I've found RateMDs useful and reasonably accurate for physicians.

@hellafiles Yelp reviews seem more geared towards restaurants. ,
@thatdawnperson I like the RateMDs for doctors and dentists and seem legitimate.
@COD Yes , but a collective positive would be better than 1 persons rave review.
@kristi I love those guys but none around my zipcode with more than 1 review.
