A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm.

I want to buy one or more robots for use in an office, and am looking for suggestions as to which robot(s) might work best. The purpose is purely for fun.

Desired qualities:

■ under $1,000 US each
■ fairly durable
■ self-charging
■ has "sleep" mode
■ autonomous, i.e., has "roam" or "guard" modes
■ works well on shallow broadloom
■ not too loud or annoying :)

The idea is to add an element of randomness and fun to the environment by having some robots roaming around.

This one is along the lines of what I am looking for. While Wowee's products look interesting, none of them appear to self-charge.

How handy are you? You can build your own Roomba that can do whatever you like.

While a roomba might not be quite what you are thinking about, mine has its own daily schedule and returns to it's charging station after each cleaning mission. Plus, they actually work really well. Plus, you could do this.
