imdb.com's ambiguous ads

Every time I go to imdb.com, the homepage is sandwiched between this ambiguous advertisement for some random movie or television show. I sometimes wonder what the advertisement is for, but there is nothing to help me out. Absolutely nothing. Nothing to click on. No titles, no names of actors or characters. What is the deal?

Seriously, why have an advertisement which has very little information? Am I supposed to already know about the movie/show before hand?

Can you supply a screenshot? I'm a fairly regular visitor to IMDB (thanks to a 10 year old who is obsessed with movies and his overprotective mum wants to check them out before she consents to him watching them) and I don't see any ads other than the usual sidebar stuff.

Yes/no. See: Teaser campaign. Sometimes these rely on what you know (for example Alien 3), and sometimes not (e.g. The Da Vinci Code).

Best answer: The banner at the top of the page is clipped off when I have AdBlock running in Chrome. With AdBlock. Without AdBlock.

Yes, you're supposed to realize that image is from "Bag of Bones" (at least that's what I'm seeing). In my case, there's also a thumbnail of the whole image part way down the page.

How wide is your screen resolution? A narrow window will cut off most of the sidebar ads.

Response by poster: Ahhhhhhhh, thank you Knappster. I have run AdBlock on Firefox and Chrome for years. It's funny because when the ads first started appearing, I wondered why AdBlock wasn't blocking them. Now I see the clickable parts have been blocked this whole time.

I've been avoiding the home page of IMDB for some time due to these ads. The site is usually in the top three of any given Google search.
