What's the best way to register an international domain name (i.e. .jp or .cn?)

What is the best service a US-based person can use to register an international domain (like .cn, .kr, and .jp?)

I tried to register these the same way I've registered all my .com domains, but the service I typically use is requiring that I use a physical address in the respective countries. Are there any reliable, reputable domain registration services that do not require this or that help you with it?

Best answer: Any reputable and reliable registrar will require this as well... those countries have such requirements. However, some registrars such as EuroDNS and 101Domains have offered "Agency" for some TLDs at a significant additional cost. I've used both of these registrars without issue. YMMV.

Also keep in mind that the cost for registering those domains vary by country. I live in Japan, but never register .jp domains because it costs something ridiculous like $100USD per year.

I like Gandi, but they don't do .kr

I have a .jp domain. It costs 4,500JPY a year or so through tsukaeru.net . Only problem with a .jp is that you have to have a Japanese mailing address to get one.

domai.nr is a great tool for finding out what's available and finding a place to register it. Mathowie just tweeted about it, which is how I found it.

I ran into this problem when a client needed a .jp address. I wound up using an outfit called JP Domains. For several years the client has groused at how they could register it more cheaply themselves and so I always offer to transfer it... But they still haven't gotten around to it. In the meantime, it has worked fine for me...
