Name That Film

A few years ago, I cought a glimpse of a Japanese film that was being shown on TV (Sundance or Cinimax, I don't remember.)

I don't know enough about it to be able to track it down and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about when I mention it. From what I was able to gather, it seemed to be about a community of people who were afflicted with something that caused them to turn into different kinds of spirals. Their bodies contored, some grew snail shells, etc. I'd guess that it's a pretty recent film due to the quality of the digital special effects.
I know it sounds weird, like I'm making it up but I SWEAR that I saw it. Has anyone else seen this film? What's it's name?

Best answer: I know the film, but no I've not seen it - I've been keeping an eye out for this film for some time without success.

You seek Uzumaki, aka Spiral, but beware Rasen, aka Spiral, aka Ring 2 - another Japanese horror.

I've seen it, but I'm no Japanese horror buff so I don't know how it compares to other movies of its type.

It was pretty good- definitely some creepy stuff happening and some gross-out parts, which is always good to see in a horror movie I guess.

I'm pretty sure we got it from Netflix- they seem to have everything.

It's a fantastic, creepy-ass movie. Uzumaki is right. It's absurd and disgusting at times, but it thrives on that. Very good.

Uzumaki is great, but keep in mind, it only tells part of the story. It is based on a manga, and the movie only adapts the first part. If the end leaves you wanting more, seek it out....

And it was Sundance -- I TiVo'd it off there when they were running it.
