It's great and all that I'm getting some in my sleep, but why and why so much?

Why have I been dreaming the same dream for years? (mildly NSFW)

Since I was a teenager I've loved taking long 3 hour marathon naps. Until about 6-7 years ago the sleep was very still, black, deep and dreamless - are least as far as I remember.

Then I started to dream - or started to remember the dreams. The content is always the same; overtly erotic to the point of orgasm - every time. Sometimes the dreams involve someone else and that someone else changes, sometimes it is just myself playing with myself, but the overall tone is predictably sexual.

Why, year after year, am I having more or less the same dream? Why this same dream, without fail, only when I nap and not when I sleep at night and why can't I take a nap without having this dream?

*There seems to be zero correlation to the frequency and intensity of these dreams to the amount of sex I am or am not having in my waking life. Also: me, girl, 30s.

I was recently told that in sleep, we process negative emotions first, then neutral ones, then finally positive emotions. Maybe your life is so good that your dreams skip straight to positive ones.

Your body could well be processing a different physical stimulus while napping than it does when sleeping. Even small differences can lead to interesting mental interpretations. For example, I often have erotic dreams when I sleep on my front, as it places pressure/contact on my crotch in the way sleeping on the side or front does not.

Do you nap in a different position to how you sleep? Do you wear clothing when napping yet not while sleeping?

Maybe your body is moving in a specific way when you nap, and that is stimulating the relevant parts of the body.

Has anyone else ever seen you not-have this dream during your normal sleep cycle? It might be possible that you're having it but not realising it when sleeping overnight. Or maybe you're sleeping too deeply for it to occur.

Does it happen regardless of where you sleep...like on the couch as opposed to the bed? I would also vote for some physical trigger (which at this point, has probably been reinforced).

Alternatively, lots of people have a higher sex drive in the late afternoon than they do at night. Could just be that. If you had sex or masturbated before your nap, that might also reduce it.

I notice often when I wake up from a sexual dream that I really need to pee. Body misinterpreting signals?

Have you started taking any antidepressants or other meds? I started having lucid dreams around the time I started taking Effexor.
