I need a Slanket without arms, also called a blanket.

What material, exactly, are Slankets made out of? I know I'm looking for polyester fleece, but that's seems to be a very wide category.

My dog is obsessed with my Slanket. I'd like to give him an identical blanket so that he stops trying to steal mine (haha I know this won't work), but all my attempts to find the exact same material have failed. I know there are different manufacturers and weights of fleece, so I am hoping that there is a fleece expert who can tell me exactly what to search for.

I recognize that I could just buy him a Slanket, but he doesn't really need armholes or pockets.

Embarrassingly, we have one of these for our dog, and the material is very similar to the slanket/snuggie material.

Response by poster: Also here is my dog, with batwings activated. Note that he is lying on a clearly-inferior blanket.

Response by poster: I thought of that but we utilize several different blankets, robes, and our regular clothing. The Slanket is the only item which he feels compelled to paw off my body so that he can nest on it.

Do you have a Jo-Ann Fabric near you? Because they have a variety of these fleecy fabrics and you could take your Slanket and compare them side-by-side.

Best answer: The Slanket is 100% polyester fleece but much heavier weight than anything at Joann's.
It turns out it's 310 grams / m2, which converts to slightly over 9.1 oz/yard. (I think most in stores is between 4-6oz/yard.)

This store has a few kinds of 300 weight fleece available, although it's not much cheaper than a kid's Slanket. I have no idea how that store is, it was just the first non-wholesaler I found.

It's a wild guess, but I'd bet that some double faced Minky fleece would do the trick.

My dog has his own, dog-sized, snuggie. It might be as cheap to buy another slanket than to buy a lot of material.

Hey, I had a similar problem! I found a 300-weight with a shearling type finish for her bed by the door - it's more plush and cozy than the Snuggie fleece, kind of lush feeling. It's warmer though, so it might be too much for an upstairs bedroom that has good heat.

For on the people bed but for her to curl up on, I just pick up whatever random fleece throws I find that feel nice to the touch, and I can't say that it seems like she steadily prefers one over another, but she always prefers fleece over any other fabric. Usually the kids sizes or the throws are the softest and feel the nicest - they feel better than the blankets that are sized twin/queen/king. Your little guy (who is adorable!) is a little bigger, you might need to stitch together two of the small ones or get a bigger piece from the fabric store.

If you have a fabric store near you, I'd go and feel a bunch of them, that's the only way I can tell if they feel right. I think there's a combination of weight and how it's been treated and it's not totally transparent to me.

I'd buy yourself another Slanket, in the same color or one you like as well. I'm guessing that they'll both end up being "community" Slankets but at least you'll have one when he steals the other.

Here for reference is my dog curled up in this fleece blanket, which he loves.

Slankets are heavier fleece than Snuggies, so be suspicious of anyone equating the two!

Try heading to the local discount stores - Ross, TJ Maxx, Mervyn's, etc. They tend to have whole racks of discount bedding, which may be heavy enough weight to satisfy your pup. My husband and I ended up with two twin-size personal sherpa fleece blankets and a king-size for our (queen-size) bed for <>
Feel it in the box; it may be a good replacement. Note: I don't know what Slankets/Snuggies feel like.

I did a lesson on snuggies and found a snuggies for dogs page. As noted above it may not be the same quality as your slanket.
