The murky world of lampshades

Question about lampshades: finding a lamp that will fit my shade.

I purchased a lampshade with an uno fitting. Now I'm looking for a floor lamp to pair it with (the store I got the lampshade from didn't have any I liked). But in my online shopping so far, the lamps I've looked at either clearly have a harp fitting, or it's impossible to tell what they have. For some reason, retailers don't seem to want to point this out.

Is there a part I can order which will easily fit onto any lamp and make it possible to use an uno shade on it? Or can you give me a brand, style, or retailer of lamps which is always of the uno type?

I would imagine you can take the harp off of many lamps. If you don't want to take a chance on ordering a lamp online and then having to return it, it may be worth a trip to a furniture store so you can at least get an idea of how likely this will be.

This page talks about converting UNO shades to harp (most common) shades -- it sounds easy, although the "instructions" aren't very detailed. They may sell the parts you need, too.

Response by poster: Thanks both for your answers. I ended up just ordering an uno replacement socket which will hopefully not be hard to wire in.
