Help me find a great Irish Whiskey bar in downtown NYC - preferably near the Irish Rep theater! (West 22nd at Hudson)
Going to be in NYC for the Christmas holiday and in doing so will be attending the Irish Rep's Dylan Thomas shew. Would very much like to find a top-notch and not exorbitantly expensive bar in the area that specializes in bourbons, Irish whiskey and the like.

That's right - I am with Lipstick Thespian and misspoke - we were just looking at another destination on Hudson street. 132 W 22nd is correct.

If so, you're a short walk away from either Rye House (spirits list, PDF) or Blue Smoke (bourbon list, PDF).
I'd choose Blue Smoke if you're more into bourbon (and they have great deviled eggs, chips and dip, BBQ, and other food), and Rye House if you want the option of switching to rye, scotch or Irish whiskey. The food at Rye House is decent, but Blue Smoke's is better. Blue Smoke also has their own private barrel of 18 year Pappy Van Winkle bourbon, which might be fun to try.
