Any recommendations for an apartment broker in Vancouver, BC?

Vancouver, BC apartment brokers: any recommendations? Especially for one that will help me find an apartment that will allow me to have a dog

I'm away from Vancouver currently; returning in about 6-7 months. When I return I really, really want to get an apartment that will let me have a dog. I used to rent in the West End and kept an eye open for a place that would allow dogs, but they seemed not to exist. I figure the best thing might be to pay someone to do the search for me/aid in the search and to start early. Really, really early. Because I really want to have a dog.

Any suggestions? Does such a service exist in Vancouver?

Best answer: If you're looking to return to the West End this may require a wizard, not a broker.

I believe 1176 Burnaby St. allows dogs. I used to have friends who lived there - not a bad place. It's certainly worth a look if they happen to have a vacancy.

Response by poster: Should have said: not looking to necessarily return to the West End; would prefer the downtown area (Gastown, Chinatown, etc) but it's not essential. Burnaby near Skytrain routes is fine too. I just want to have a dog. Oh, and not live in someone's basement.

Thanks for the suggestion! Will check them out.

2 of my friends have dogs - they each go through hell everytime they move and usually wind up taking ugly basement apt.s in East Van. But quite likely you can afford to spend more on your housing, so Gastown might be your best bet. Everytime I'm down there I see tons of people walking their dogs (usually smaller dogs though, not sure what breed you have). You're also close to Crab Park for walks along the water from Gastown.

This may be too far out for you but my ex-gf lived in the townhouses at Powell & Victoria with her dog, I think everybody who lived in those units had dogs. Nice landlords, cheap rent, lots of transit, JJ Bean / Princeton a block away.

sorry this doesn't specifically answer your question, just trying to offer my .02

Best answer: and actually, right as I hit post it occurred to me that up until recently, my cousin and her bf were living in the West End with a dog. They had a very small lap-dog though, so again it might depend on the breed. They've since moved to Ottawa but if you're interested I could try to get building/landlord info. Was only over there once, decent place though, they were up on the 20th floor or so with a view of English Bay.
