What are convincing arguments to fight for trans-equality?

A few days ago I heard about a business owner in London Ontario being told that she could not have transgendered people running a booth at my local farmers market. She was told that she could either replace these trans women or take her booth elsewhere (she pays for a booth and sets it up at a weekend market). Business was booming and there did not appear to be any problem with these individuals, but the management and owner said that it was a family-friendly place and they didn't want people like that in their facility.

My question though, is how do you confront people who hold very closed-minded opinions? I've been reading the comments in the news stories and hearing what people have said on the radio and I just wanted to know how other people confronted discriminatory comments. I mean, I know it's against the Ontario Human Rights Commission and telling them that doesn't seem to get me that far.

I don't personally identify as trans so it's hard to speak on behalf of people and I don't want to pretend as if I know what they're going through. All I do know is, discrimination based on gender identity is wrong. What convincing arguments can you think of when coming into contact with discriminatory people?

The story has been quite the controversy over the past 2 days. Here's the background links if you're interested.
