Help me identify this mid 2000's neo-noir movie

Plot along the lines of: A young female reporter is assigned to write a profile of Martin and Lewis type showbiz duo 10 years after their heyday in the 50's, uncovers the true story of their break-up is related to the death of female groupie in a 'sex games gone wrong' scenario.

Vaguely remembered scenes and images: Older Peter Fonda type in modernist house in the Hollywood Hills; reporter is drugged, freak out sequence follows with Jefferson Airplane 'White Rabbit' sound track, compromising photos are taken and threats of blackmail are made; body of dead girl concealed in ice-filled trunk of lobsters(!?); homosexual inferences in showbiz duo's relationship.

Pretty confident I saw this at the cinema around 2005-6. The reporter was a Rachel McAdams type, the duo were both Rupert Everett-y.
