DC bachlorette party?

Please help me plan a bachlorette party for both brides in DC.

I am the matron of honor for a good friend who lives in DC. Being my bridal party status, I'm hosting the bachlorette party along with the other bride's maid of honor. There are no other bridesmaids or groomsmen. I haven't seen my friend for four years and never met her fiancee. This party will be for both brides.

I live in MO and have only been to DC a couple of times many years ago. The maid of honor lives in or near DC, but is rather non-communicative. I was sent a list of 30+ names, most have email addresses, some only phone numbers. Looks like more than half are from out of town. The wedding is in only seven weeks. I explained to my friend that I could not afford to fly to DC twice in the next couple of months and most likely the other invitees could not either. I suggested the party be held the Wed before the Sat wedding. She agreed.

I have no idea what to plan. My friend said she wants "good food." When I prodded for more info she said she likes Hooters wings. She doesn't drink, I'm not sure about her bride. I, on the other hand, do drink. My friend is not opposed to strippers. The only thing she absolutely does not want is penis decorations. Would have thought that went without saying, but okay.

I have never been to Hooters. Would it be possible to have dinner at Hooters (or is it even a good idea) and then go to some club that is gay-friendly and has female strippers? Do I have to rent a party bus? I'm sure there are oodles of options in DC. Help. Please.

Best answer: There is a Hooters in Chinatown in DC. I think it's terrible, but if it's what the bride wants...

As an alternative, here's what I'd do. Dinner at one of the many delicious restaurants on H Street NE. I recommend Ethiopic, Granville Moore's, or Sticky Rice. I've also heard that Inspire has great BBQ. In any case, you have many options.

After dinner, head to Palace of Wonders. They put on an amazing Burlesque show almost every night. There's booze for those who want it, and great entertainment for those who'd prefer something else. Check to make sure they're doing burlesque on the night you want to go, but even if they're not, they have good music and a really cool "oddities" museum.

Finally, finish off the night at Dangerously Delicious Pies, stuffing your faces with sweets. It's open very late, so you can go in whenever you like.

None of this is lesbian specific, but it'll all be gay friendly, you'll see some dancing ladies, and you'll eat really well. That's what I would do. But again, if the bride really wants Hooters...

Best answer: Fun dinner game: you just bring a decorative box, 1ft square like and ask all guests to bring undies, not wrapped or with a gift tag. Put all undies in the box and the bride has to wear all undies that she is unable to guess the person who brought them for her... ok so that is the basic premise for one bride, with two I imagine some undie swapping, and two boxes with a lot more humor involved.

Another party game at a recently attended bachelorette party was a scavenger hunt, 100 or so items to find as we went bar hopping, such as "get your photo taken in the men's room with a short man" "Get a patron to write words of advice on a bar napkin".

Good luck!

Response by poster: Very good suggestions. Thank you.

My friend says she likes Hooters for the wings. Yeah, my husband says the same thing. Sigh.

Does the scavenger hunt end with a prize? Any suggestions for a prize?

I have to jump in and echo the suggestion for the Palace of Wonders. It's the Red Palace now, as it's conjoined to the bar next door (formerly The Red and The Black), but you can still get a raucous burlesque or variety show most nights. I'd check the calendar in advance and see if the scheduled event appeals to you, as the quality and theme of shows varies wildly, but I've seen plenty of bachelorette parties have a blast there. They don't have any burlesque scheduled yet for seven weeks out from now, but check again soon and they'll have more. Gilded Lily Burlesque, DC Gurly Show, or Lil' Dutch always put on reliably entertaining sets. Good luck with whatever you choose, though!

Mystery bag with fun stuff in it? Or keep it simple, $20 to buy a few more drinks with?
