What's your Android 3 wearing?

Any suggestions for a protective yet stylish case or cover for the Android 3 (Verizon)? This is my first smartphone and I got it a week ago. I am so afraid that I am going to drop this "heavy" thing. And yes I am over 40.

Nothing specific, as I have an iPhone, but you probably want some kind of film for the screen, too, to keep it from being scratched. I've had a film and a thin rubbery cover on mine since I got my first one, and despite many droppings it's perfectly fine.

One tip: if you have pets, get a non-pet-hair-attracting one. Otherwise your phone will be eternally fuzzy.

Having a film cover is mostly superfluous these days. Anything that would scratch the screen on an iPhone (or most other touchscreen phones) would break the glass first.

If you have a Droid 3 (as I think you do), I'd get a cover from the verizon store as soon as I can. Android phones come out so often it can be hard to find accessories for your model even a few months later.

I like the rubbery cases, either stretchy skins or hard cases with rubbery surface, as this decreases the chances that the phone will slip out of your hands, or off of some surface. If you're desperate for a case, head to the Verizon store and try some out. Otherwise, you can browse there, and order online to save a bunch.

otterbox gets great reviews on their phone cases.

it doesn't look like they've made the flip case yet for the droid 3, but i loved my boxwave case.

for my droid 2, i've gone with a slip case (that i knitted myself), but in research i learned that the droid 2 fits in most iphone 4 slip cases (this is a case for between uses, my phone is naked when i'm using it).

i would personally recommend against the cases in the verizon store. they're often more expensive than they should be for the quality you get.

Amazon is your friend here.

Ignore that. I've scratched several iPhone screens and various Android phones. Buy a screen protector. Buy it from monoprice/eBay/Amazon, you'll probably pay about $1 each.

Here's a rubber case.

i've dropped my phone a number of times. i am not dainty with it. i have never scratched the screen. i opted to not get the screen protector. i don't like the way they look after a few months. they seem dingy to me. i think it's a personal preference.

for more flashy cases, i've seen some good reviews for these, but i've never used one personally.

I have a DROID 2 and have purchased cases on ebay and the verizon store. Yes the store was more expensive but I think the quality is better than what I got on ebay.

I currently use a purple rubber one. Great protection and easy to get on and off if I need to pull my battery out.

Just a note: if you're searching online be sure to search for "Droid 3", as that's the particular phone model you'll be trying to fit. Android, on the other hand, is the name of the operating system, which runs on phones of all sorts of shapes and sizes. To make matters more confusing, Android does actually have an upcoming version of the operating system, 3.0, which runs on tablets.

An analogy is: You've asked here, "Help me find a carrying case for my Windows XP laptop." Well, there are lots of bags that could fit all sorts of laptops. What you really want to ask is: "Help me find a carrying case for my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop."

I got a really nice case for mine when I felt the same way you did. But after a month or two I eventually took it off because
1. the phone was slimmer and nicer bare,
2. I was paying the extra few dollars a month insurance policy that covers drop breakage
3. I've not dropped it yet.
4. It's been very study when I have been rough with it.
5. I can put a custom skin on it if it's not in a case
6. Buttons are easier to use without the bulk of the case
7. It's soooo much slimmer and nicer bare.

Disadvantages:
1. The case had a little kickstand so it would sit like a picture frame on the desk when watching youtube videos. (Now I have to prop it up or hold it or lie it flat)

So my recommendation - pay the extra few dollars a month for piece of mind so you can skip the case, and maybe even design your own skin online.

i have the middle tier droid x case from otterbox -- its a great product, not too thick, but keeps my phone safe enough based on my usage/drops/patterns...

i waited a long time for otterbox to release it, but 100% worth the wait...
