Windows app to create templates for woodworking?

I don't have any graphic design or photoshop experience.

I just need something to help me make symmetrical shapes, circles and so on. Some kind of non commercial CAD app maybe?

I don't mind spending money for something that does the job.

Best answer: Sketchup?

Best answer: Sketchup is perfect for woodworking projects, whether you need 2D templates or full 3D plans. I've used it on two projects this year - a rather fancy potting bench and a big play fort thing with a slide attached.

Sketchup takes a little while (say a couple of hours) to get used to - the way you construct things is a little idiosyncratic - but once you've got the hang of it I think you'll love it.

Sketchup is made ever so more useful and easy with a 3D SpaceNavigator Mouse.

You can find them for about $50 with a little work. Makes a day and night difference in Sketchup. Cheap fun.
