the lady and the amazon?

does anyone know this novel/story? it is the supposedly true story of the first European woman to travel the Amazon on her own.

Can you help me remember a book I read about six years ago? This was a story about some sort of Spanish or European colonists in maybe the 1700’s living in Peru or some south American place. They are possibly well off, and the husband is called back to Europe and the whole family is going to move. The husband goes ahead with the wife and a big entourage of folks to follow. The kicker is that they are supposed to travel down the Amazon River. Pretty much everyone in the woman’s group dies except her (natural causes?) and she miraculously navigates her way through the jungle/travels on the river/survives her way on her own. This was a true story but I am having no luck with Google. Thanks!
