What can I do to determine if I have a bad domain registration situation?

I just signed up for a domain through 1and1. Upon further research I've realized they're a crappy company at best. I am using a DNS redirect to a different host that is reputable. I bought the domain yesterday around 3 EST, it has worked intermittently since then, sometimes displaying the actual website on the reputable host and other times displaying 1and1 stuff.

I've read that one should allow 48 hours for DNS info to propagate, but I'm worried I've made a mistake even allowing 1and1 to be my registrar and this will be a recurring problem.

Would a domain transfer be a simple task? Am I overreacting and should I just wait another 15 hours or so?

Best answer: You are over reacting. Give it a couple of days to propagate.

Best answer: Give it 48 hours. I've been happily (if not very demandingly) using 1and1 since 2003.

Best answer: I've been using 1and1 since 05 on their cheapest package, and only had unplanned down time once. Chill a bit. Always give DNS stuff 48 hours.

Response by poster: All right, thanks ya'll, I've never done DNS stuff before and I just don't want to get burned. I will wait it out.

FWIW, I was with 1and1 for a couple of years (both hosting and domain registration) and whenever I had a problem it was like pulling teeth to get support. The others are right that it probably just hasn't propagated yet and that's completely normal, but I'd still probably switch if I were you.
