Looking For Authors

Looking for early 20th century authors similar to Stephen Leacock and Booth Tarkington. My father-in-law enjoys their writings and would like to read similar authors that are in the public domain and are available in ebook format. He would also like to find early downloadable copies of True and Argosy magazines.

James Thurber has a similar style, in my opinion, but I don't know how much of his stuff (if any) is in the public domain.

I would put A P Herbert in the same category as Leacock. There seems to be one book by him on Project Gutenberg but I haven't read it myself.
