Sandals are wearing already!

My new sandals are already wearing at the toe and I know why -- so how do I stop it?

Last week I bought a pair of (men's) sandals that I love, but the very front of the sole is already wearing. They are open-toed and have a heel strap, and the bottom part of the sole is made out of some heavy but very floppy material. Every 200 steps or so, the front of the insole (the area right under my toes) droops down and catches against either the ground, a curb, or a stair. This hasn't tripped me up yet, but it's started to wear at the leather there. Since the entire insole is one piece of leather, as soon as that spot wears through I'm sure the entire insole will start coming off. This is happening on both sandals.

How do I stop this? I am working on tweaking my gait, but I'd rather protect the sandals themselves. Is there some way to firm up the sole so that it doesn't droop and catch on things? Or is there something I can put on the leather to protect it from scuffing there?

I have the same problem with a couple pairs of sandals. Take your shoes to a cobbler and have them reinforce the toe of the sole. This is relatively cheap and virtually invisible.

We could make suggestions, like covering the danger zone with a film of shoe goo, glueing strips of something to the edge of hte sole, putting wire supports in the grooves between the treads, or whatever might fit, but (a) it's hard to imagine exactly the solution without seeing the shoes, (b) it would probably look tacky unless done well, and (c) taking it to a pro would get it done right, thoroughly, more permanently, and without looking dumb. It's worth the consultation, at least - if explain your problem and the guy says "sure, I can just attach a big ugly thing all around the side" you can always say no and take your shoes home again, but that might give you some ideas about why he didn't want to do other solutions, or what kinds of more aesthetic things you could do along those lines.
