Question: mobile phone sync COMM Port

I've installed phone management and sync software for my new mobile phone, but cannot allocate a comm port successfully. The help file says to use a comm port from the list which has a * beside it, but there are no ports listed with an asterisk beside them.

I am using a USB connection.

Any guidance would be much appreciated

What model phone? Is it typically a serial connection, rather than a USB connection?

I have a Motorola V720 that is supposed to use a serial connection according to the software. There is a work around but if you don't have that kind of phone, then, nevermind.

I have a LG U8138 on the '3' Network in the UK. However, this is a problem that has occurred also with my son's Sony Ericsson phone too. It's the PC it seems, not the phone.

Have you actually tried to sync the phone. I use hotsync software and a Treo 600 phone via USB. If I look at how the software is set up it shows set to COM 1 with no option for USB. When I first installed the software I was really confused by the situation but just went ahead an tried to sync and it worked.

Do you know if the COM port created by the USB adapter actually appears in the list, or only your computer's built-in ports appearing?

In the original setup list there are 256 comm ports listed! One is supposed to have an asterisk beside it - presumably indicating the one to use. But no comm port is indicated.
