I need a suggestion for a location the size of this stage.

I joined an improv group through meet-up.com. Our current practice space is part of a set of mall storefronts that have been converted into a haunted house. At the end of summer they are going to resume haunting folks and we will no longer have practice space. Any thoughts on where in Portland OR. we might be able to find relatively private rooms that have seating and an open area that are either free or extremely cheap?

Places that would that would be willing to give a small group a back room if we rang up a decent tab would work. I haven't considered the local colleges/unis much as we don't have any students as part of our group and I haven't found any links on the psu site about reserving/renting/borrowing a classroom. I'd gladly take links or contact info that anyone can put forth though. Really, I'd appreciate any suggestions for places where massive emotional outbursts will be tolerated.

Best answer: Do a search of your local AA meetings and contact each of those venues about space rental. Churches typically rank high on this list and are often ideally set up to for the kind of classroom arrangement you need.

Best answer: Your local public library might have a room! My old local library had a kids event room that, although not completely soundproof, at least dampened the noise of 10-20 kids. It also had a tile floor instead of carpet (to avoid glitter and tempra paint accidents), and tables and chairs that could be used depending on the event.

Best answer: The kids improv group I was involved with for several years sometimes used meeting rooms in libraries or the martial arts studio a few of us were affiliated with, before their classes started in the afternoons. I suppose you could ask to use the studio in the evening, after classes were over too.

Best answer: My impro troupe used to rehearse in a theatre on Wednesday evenings. Most small theatres have off-nights once or twice a week when the theatre's not being used, so it's worth calling a few and checking (bonus: if you end up performing at that venue, you've rehearsed in the space AND you know the people so you might get a special deal).
