Question: Is the a menu/recipe program out there?

Does anyone know of a program where I can store recipes, prepare a menu from those recipes, and then a shopping list?

Specifically I'd like to select 30 random recipes for the month, prepare a shopping list from those recipes, and then cards for those recipes so I know what I can prepare with what I have on hand.

For years I have used a piece of software called MasterCook. Once upon a time, it was produced by Sierra, but not anymore. It seems to be moribund in terms of development, but it works.

It does all of these things and then some.

Not sure what OS you're using, but I like MacGourmet. I believe it does what you've mentioned and more.

I'll second MasterCook. Interface took me a little getting used to, but it works. Recipezaar's services are pleasing me lately too.

I think that all the cool kids are using Living Cookbook nowadays. It's not free but it has a staggering array of functions, including being able to make shopping lists and downloading and incorporating recipes from several sites on the web.

MealsForYou.com does much the same thing as what you're asking for, and the recipe suggestions have kept me from fixing the same things over and over.

I know this is old, but in case someone does a search later, I'd like to note that I've used Mastercook, Living Cookbook and a half dozen other programs.

By far, I prefer Now You're Cooking, commonly abbreviated as NYC. Ignore the not-so-slick webpage and download a trial copy of NYC. It's a fantastic program and over the years has only gotten better. Also, you get free upgrades for every future version, once you register.
