Can Liza Wang sell out a Vegas show?

I'm trying to book a Hong Kong singer to play in the U.S. How do I tell if she'll be worth our costs of booking/production?

Liza Wang is apparently a famous (but older) Hong Kong singer. Her husband, Law Kar-Ying also apparently has a large following. I work on the LV Strip and a promoter is pressing us hard on the show. I need to sell a total of 7000 tickets over two nights at an average of $45 per. In other words, I need to gross about $315,000 for two shows.

Does anyone know about this artist and how she may draw in the US over Labor Day weekend? I don't know anything about her and am having a hard time finding independently verifiable data.

Well, could you get in touch with the Chinese/Taiwanese community in Las Vegas and ask? Contact the Las Vegas Chinese Daily News AND the folks at Las Vegas Chinese News Network. See if you can also get stats on Chinese/Taiwanese tourists in LV, particularly over Labor Day - either from them or gosh - the gaming commission? The tourists are obvious targets for local and international marketing, though maybe you should focus on marketing this to all of the Chinese/Taiwanese communities in major cities across the US.

Well I don't know if you've seen this yet, but this is her website (in Chinese) and wikipedia page. If you look at the link addresses you can tell what they're about (e.g. photos).

Your question is really hard to answer though. On one hand, everyone in Hong Kong and many in other countries know her. She's even known as simply "the big sister" to everyone in HK. Her husband is also pretty much a household name. Her husband was mostly a star only in the Chinese opera circles until he got with her and then he later used his comedic talents in TV shows and movies. Looking at her recent schedule, it seems that she's mostly been doing (1) politics and (2) Chinese opera, with only one major concert held together with another old time favourite. She was never that great of a pop singer, but that doesn't mean much given her status. She sold out 4 (I think) solo (with guests) concerts in 2003 in Hong Kong, and that stadium can hold up to 12500 (I'm not sure how many seat were available for the concert, but typically they do make use of most of them).

$45 seems quite cheap for a show to see her. If it were near Toronto, I'd see the tickets being more like $60 on average, starting at around $40.
