Low carb friendly restaurants near Columbus Convention Center -

Headed to Columbus for Origins, and trying to stick to the 4 Hour Body diet (essentially low carb, no dairy other than butter & eggs, no sugar, fruit, etc) - any suggestions on places we could eat near Greater Columbus Convention Center?

I'm aware of the North Market (and love it!), and it looks like there are a couple of places in there. We will have access to a car, but would prefer things close by, if at all possible.

I'm aware of the food in the convention center food court, as well.

I realize we may not be able to stick to the diet, but would like to do as little damage as possible!

I feel like there must be lots of good options in the Short North, but I haven't done a lot of exploring for those kinds of foods.

You know about the Chipotle and the Sunny Street Cafe in the Arena District, right? There's also a BD's Mongolian Barbeque.

Also check out Columbus Underground's restaurant discussions; they're fairly helpful. If I can come up with anything more concrete I'll post later.

Knead, right across the street, tends towards the local end of the spectrum, so it may break your diet but it would be in an organic and local sort of way :-) They have a really excellent beet salad.

Betty's and Surly Girl (in the Short North) both have excellent salads.

Further north, in Clintonville, there's Whole World (a vegetarian place) and Lavash (good medditerannean).

I'm having trouble thinking of other kinds of foods you can eat - if you give some other examples, I can try to think of other places. Websites for restaurants in Columbus include the aforementioned Columbus Underground - also check out Alt.Eats.Columbus for reviews of ethnic food places around the city. There's enough variety and locally owned places that you shouldn't need to eat at chains, unless you want to!

North Star may have some options for you. Plus, they're really willing to adapt dishes for you by removing things like cheese or rice. Not sure how close it is, though.

Response by poster: Oh! Thank you both for the suggestions.

We can eat most any kind of meat, and we can eat most vegetables (not potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, but other things are fine). Salads are definitely in, although most dressings are out. Beans are ok.

I will look into the Bd's Mongolian Barbeque - I've never been there, but it sounds like exactly the sort of place that would be good.

Knead sounds really yummy, too - we may have to check it out even if it's not super diet friendly!

Please be aware that "no dairy" does not eliminate eggs from a diet. Eggs are not dairy. Dairy comes from the milk of mammals.

Comfest is that same weekend, and will also have some options that are separate from what's available in the North Market.

I love going back and forth between Origins and Comfest, or as I lovingly call them, nerd con and hippy con.

Oh my holy heck, I forgot about Comfest. Yeah. If I were into weird eating (my choices at BD's are laughably unexotic) I'd definitely go there.

Well, weird eating and naked people (NSFW Google Image search.)
