What type of lizard is this?

Can anyone help me identify what type of lizard this is?

My friend found this lizard in the San Francisco Financial district. It was sticking vertically to a door during the day. It froze for long enough for him to get a photo of it. You can see the photo here: http://www.fantasyislands.org/lizard-front-door.jpg
He think it's a gecko. I think it might be a salamander or newt.
There is no fresh water around that area, so it's possible he's right.

I don't think its a lizard. It looks more amphibious to me... I'd have to go with some sort of salamander or newt too.

Response by poster: Yeah, but what type of newt or salamander would it be?

fwiw, I googled "newt identification san francisco" which lead me here and then I image searched the Salamanders. My internet here is really slow, luckily it was the first in the list.
