Socially/environmentally responsible bank in Boston?

[BostonFilter] I'm looking for a socially/environmentally responsible bank in Boston.

Just moved here, and hoping to wield my meager power of consumer choice effectively. What bank do you use? What do you know of its social/environmental ethos? Searching around it seems as if Wainwright Bank would have been awesome, but they were recently absorbed by Eastern Bank, which doesn't have the same mission... Are they still my best bet?

I'd also like good customer service and online banking, but would hope that would be a given...

Bonus: any other recommendations for local socially/environmentally aware businesses/organizations?

Have you looked at Move Your Money? You can enter your zip code for local banks.

My Boston-based cohort who wanted good customer service all went to Citizen's. You can read their credo online.

If you are connected with MIT, or know someone who is, you may be eligible for an account at the MIT Federal Credit Union. From their About Us page: The guiding inspiration for the way MITFCU conducts business is its mission statement: The MIT Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, cooperative financial institution whose primary mission is to provide quality financial services that meet the needs of our members while ensuring the financial well-being of the organization.

The branches are only in Cambridge, and they are non-cash facilities, but they have a good credit card offer and are a member of the magical credit union network that lets you do business with several thousand other credit unions nationwide. (I have used them for 10+ years now as my only bank, and converted my mother.)
