How much money does a Starbucks employee make?

How much money does a person working at Starbucks make per month, working in the Upper West Side of Manhattan if they are a barista and have been working for five years? What about as a shift manager (same time frame), or a store manager?

I am writing a book and want somewhat accurate information about this. I can do a calculation of minimum wage on my own, but I suspect that in Manhattan, Starbucks employees might get paid a little bit more than the national minimum wage... or not...

Some info.

CNN's 2011 listing of Starbucks as one of the 100 best companies to work for says the most common salaried job is "store manager," and their average annual salary is $50,673. That's just an average, so the person you're describing might make more based on location or experience.

You could ask these folks.

Maybe this is helpful: Glassdoor.com hourly wage for Starbucks jobs in NYC. From the anon poll respondents the average wage for baristas is $8.88 and for shift managers $11.46 if you average out "shift" and "sift" managers (heh).

NYT indicates hourly workers make $9 to $10 an hour starting out as of January this year.

Tips would vary depending on exact store location. Two different shops even within one region can vary a lot. One might see an average of $50/week tips to part-timers and one could see $200/week.

The Glassdoor info is very accurate--and are you writing my friend's life? My roommate six years ago had five years of experience as a barista and was a shift manager on the UWS and was making $11something per hour. She worked about 30-35 hour weeks, so you can figure out a monthly average from there.

$11.50/hr * 35 hr/wk * 52 wk/yr = $20,930/yr

Something doesn't add up with the Glassdoor info.

Try asking on this site. It is Starbucks Gossip.

Glassdoor info I linked is showing shift managers and baristas, not store managers. I also think the info from "100 Best..." is including benefits given to store managers, whereas Glassdoor self-reporters are simply listing their hourly wage.

$11.75, when weighted by the numbers of "shift" and "sift" managers respectively:

(93 * $11.12 + 1375 * $11.79) / (93 + 1375) = $11.7476
