I've started using TeamSpeak to communicate with the members of my guild in World of Warcraft, and I've run into a problem. The other users can barely hear me, unless I have the Speech Control Panel open in Windows. I don't have to do anything other than open it, and my volume comes through fine. (Already checked all the levels on the microphone, and that's not the issue.) Any ideas?

What type of setup are you using? We use TeamSpeak for City of Heroes, and typically people have issues with separate mic and speakers, but not with a headset set-up. The majority of our people use our "Official Communicator" -- the Logitech 300. I'm not sure what the issue may be with YOUR microphone per se, but I know that our people have had some problems resolving mic issues as well, which we've fought with rather unsucessfully. I would say to switch to a headset.

I am using a headset. Not the same one you use, but it's still a Logitech.

Have you tried manually adjusting the mic input level from the volume control panel? Double click the VOLUME icon in your taskbar, then slide the microphone volume up.

As I mentioned in the original post, I've checked all the levels, and they're fine. The mic slider is all the way up. Even if it wasn't, why would having the Speech Control Panel open make a volume difference?

Opening the Speech control panel may be turning on "mic boost." In the volume control panel, select Recording under Options->Properties, then make sure Advanced Controls is on under the Options menu. There should be an 'Advanced' button under the Mic slider. In that Advanced dialog, there should be a checkbox saying "Mic Boost," "Microphone Boost," "+20dB," or something like that.

Ah, that might be it. I'll check it out when I get home.

I had a client once that was using TeamSpeak (for some more business-oriented application) and it completely killed his audio. I finally discovered that there was a "test mode" or some such in TeamSpeak that, (if I recall correctly) when on, would allow Windows audio to work properly, but when off, basically shut down the sound card. I don't know the version of TeamSpeak he was using. This option was accessed through one of the menus and then I think maybe an Advanced button beyond that. (It's been a while ago, sorry.)
