Hidden Markov Models for idiots?

Biologist needs recommendations on where to start learning the basics of HMMs.
Hidden Markov Models, I don't understand them and they are appearing more and more in my research (epigenomics) literature (for example). Can anyone recommend any good, basic tutorials or texts? I do not have a math background (biologist/geneticist), so examples and non-symbolic explanations are preferred if possible.

Best answer: I originally learned from Biological Sequence Analysis, for which Sean Eddy (author of the previous link) is a co-author. It has much more explanation, including the "occasionally dishonest casino" example.
For a much more technical explanation, I recommend "What HMMs can do" by my co-mentor Jeff Bilmes. Less appropriate for your described background, but if anyone out there really wants to understand HMMs, I recommend it.
