How to back up the information from the Notes app on an iPhone 3GS that crashed?

I am asking this for a whose iPhone crashed. She has access to the normal iPhone backup files that are on her computer, and wants to know if there is any way to restore the files that were in her Notes app. She'd like to avoid paying anything if possible.

Thanks for your help! Let me know if any more info would clarify things.

When she says "it crashed", what does she mean exactly? Does it turn on at all? When she turns it on, does she see the picture of the cable being connected to iTunes, or does it stall on the Apple logo?

Response by poster: The phone works now, but it crashed while she was updating the OS and accidentally pulled the plug. She did restore from backup, but none of her information (such as her saved notes) was restored.

If she has her iPhone set up with an IMAP mail account (like gmail or yahoo) there's a chance her Notes have been backed up to her email account. more here.

There's a chance it defaults to that setting because my phone had been backing up my Notes to email and I don't remember ever setting it up that way.

Select Preferences > Devices in iTunes, and it'll show a list of all the backups that are available. If the most recent backup is broken or corrupted or whatever, she can delete it and then do a restore of the previous backup that might have her correct data in it.
