Girl with a Gun?

I'm trying to remember the name of an American feature film from the late 1970s or 1980s. A quiet girl is the victim of violence so takes gun lessons and practises on a shooting range then (I think) takes revenge on her assailant. It's a thoughtful, rather than all action story though. The girl had short dark hair, at least while she's learning about guns. Sorry, that's all I can recall. Anyone have any ideas?
This does sound a lot like Ms. 45 (the girl is so 'quiet' she's actually mute) except I'm pretty sure there's no shooting range scene. You can watch the film here on YouTube.

Response by poster: It's not either of those but thanks for the suggestions. My rubbish memory recalls the shooting range was somewhere sunny, probably California. Ordinary girl, short dark hair, dark eyes, toughens up, takes shooting lessons, this is driving me nuts.

I've just been sifting through lists of rape and revenge films and women's revenge films; I couldn't see anything that matched your description, but perhaps something will jog your memory?

Response by poster: No, it was contemporary. Sorry, I've been through the links but it's not them. This is probably impossible as I don't remember enough about it. I just have the freeze frame ending in my head. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I saw this same film on late night TV when I was in England in 1994. I never caught the name of it and have never been able to find out what it was. I recall that the woman was raped at the beginning (by either a co-worker or her boss; she'd gone to his apartment for dinner and then things turned ugly) and then later she bought a gun and was learning to use it on a shooting range.

Response by poster: That's the one Oriole, in fact that's probably exactly where and when I saw it. Maybe it was an American made for TV film, which is why it seems so obscure. It's not The Brave One or Nikiita or She Said No.
