Missing Color in Photoshop

When I open scans, photos and internet images in photoshop it's missing yellow.

I just got a new computer and installed Creative Suite 4 - just did normal set up. I checked all my color settings everything seems fine. But when I open images they look like I have the yellow channel off. (It's not). Thumbnails look fine. Even the thumbnails on my file layer look fine. If I change the file to CMYK it looks fine. I need to work in RGB for my companies color settings. What is going on? I am working in CS4. I've also tested in trial of CS5 and the same thing happens.

Before I switched computers everything was fine. The girl next to me got the same new computer and installed photoshop in the same way and its not happening to her.

RGB doesn't have a yellow channel though, it uses the abscence of color...
If you save to PSD and open in the other pc is it fine?
What happens if you swap monitors? Sometimes if the cable is not in correctly, you wont get the yellow signal. But it will look like that for everything on the screen, not just the image...

Response by poster: Sorry - it might not specifically be yellow. It just looks very blue. They open fine in illustrator and everything and preview fine and open in preview fine. So I don't think its the monitor. Yes they open fine on other computers.

PhotoShop has a "Color Settings" (in CS3 it's under the "Edit" menu). I would start there. I can not specifically guide you, since I approach such problems by futzing around with the controls until something good happens. Maybe look for the analagous RGB setting in your Illustrator, and try to make it match that.

I have a similar problem in Photoshop CS3 for Mac. I don't know what causes it, but this is the solution that works for me:

- Open the file, or begin a new one.
- Go to View -> Proof Setup. On mine, it defaults to Monitor RGB.
- Choose one of the other options.
- Choose Monitor RGB again.

Yes, I'm setting it to the same thing it was supposedly originally set at, but for some reason this fixes the problem. Now if only I could work out a way to fix it permanently.

Response by poster: It's so weird. My co-worker has same computer same exact set up and it doesn't happen to her. I literally have re-installed photoshop like 5 times. I've even had a new hard drive and re installation of the operating system in between tehre and its still happening.

If i paste it into illustrator it looks fine.

Even like the swatches in photoshop look fine. The thumbnails in layers look fine. And if you preview a filter the preview looks fine, its literally only the canvas/artboard that is missing the color or something (It just looks very bluey-purple.

Response by poster: Also - i tried editing the color settings .. none seem to make any difference.

Under the proof set up depending what I change it to different colors are missing. i.e cmyk set up looks really red. no blues.

Best answer: Hey all -
after many months of not being able to figure out what was going on. I finally got it! It seems it was a screen refresh issue. I turned off Open GL in photoshop and it fixed it.
