I'd like to convert some Winamp files to DVD files, so they can be played on a normal DVD player. Anyone know if this can be done and how? posted by Frasermoo to technology (4 comments total)
You're going to need to explain what you mean by 'winamp files'. If you just mean songs, any burning program will burn you a CD that you can play in any CD or DVD player. posted by Jairus at 6:55 AM on May 8, 2005
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Winamp files" - are these video files that you play back through Winamp? If so, the method will depend on what format the video files are in. What are the three letters at the end of the filename? They'll probably be something like .avi, .mpg, .wmv, .rm or .mov
VideoHelp.com is a very good resource for this kind of stuff. A recent AskMe question pointed out DIKO which I've used and works great if your files are in AVI format. Or you could use AVI2DVD.
Or does Winamp have some proprietary video format that I'm not aware of? posted by blag at 6:56 AM on May 8, 2005
Fraasermoo,
Assumably you have mp3 files. Many dvd players have the abilty to play mp3s. If your does, nero or even windows built in cd burning app has this ability - burn a couple of mp3s and test it.
There is a very specific DVD-Audio format (like the very specific DVD-Video format), but odds are you're not goign to have to worry about it. posted by filmgeek at 8:53 AM on May 8, 2005
Addition to filmgeek's comment : even if your DVD player will play MP3 files, be aware that many will not play them from DVD-R - only from CD-R / CD-RW. Strange, but true. posted by Pinback at 6:11 AM on May 9, 2005
