And it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog.

I would like to find a small pub in Portland, Oregon, with regular live folk-ish music.

So I lived in Japan for awhile, and would regularly go over to Kyoto to a little hole-in-the-wall place called Tagd's, which was great. Half local, half expat, with a small group of English, Scottish, and Irish folk that would cycle and play music most every night. It was FANTASTIC and I really miss it.

What's similar in and around Portland? I've been to Kells and it's definitely not what I'm looking for; too big, wrong crowd.

You could try the County Cork over on NE Fremont, which I've found to be quite mellow. Music only a couple of days a week, though.

The Moon and Sixpence is not quite as cosy, but they also seemed to have a nice vibe the last couple of times I was there.

One of the few bars in Old Town (ish) that avoids the frat-and-vomit crowd that Kells attracts is Tugboat Brewing. They have music most nights, but pretty much all jazz, which might not fit your bill. It's cosy, though, and well worth visiting at least once.

Bubbaguitar has good listings for old-time & folk music. I've been to Moon and Sixpence and it has a nice mellow vibe.

Check the music schedules at White Eagle Saloon, Laurelthirst Pub, Alberta Street Pub, Mississippi Pizza. For a real English pub vibe, the Horse Brass (HUGE beer list) and Moon & Sixpence. If you like beer, also check out Belmont Station.

Enjoy!

Biddys is an Irish pub that has music pretty regularly.

It's a bit further out in Sellwood, but the Muddy Rudder has music on most nights, a good relaxed atmosphere and a varied beer selection.

Alberta Street Pub was my first thought as well.
