Yet another albumfilter

I'm looking for a recently released album that was actually recorded in the 70s but was only released now. The name was something like Torrey Canyon, Torrey Pines, Laurel Canyon (but Google is not helping me here), any ideas? I really wanted to listen to it but it's looking like I have the name completely wrong. I believe I originally heard about it on Metafilter. I do not have lyrics, because I haven't heard it! Note: it is not Torrey Canyon LTD, from Kent, OH.

Serge Gainsbourg recorded a song called "Torrey Canyon", which was released on the album "Initials B.B" in 1968. It doesn't sound like what you're looking for, but might at least eliminate it from the suspect list.

Maybe you're thinking of Whispering Pines? But it wasn't recorded in the 70s, it was recorded with a 1970s Trident A range console.

Probably not the Numero Wayfaring Strangers: Ladies From the Canyon compilation.

I heard a similar story on NPR a few months back, but I can't remember too many details - the recording artist dissapeared, and was interested in extraterrestrials?

Response by poster: Rainbaby, that was Jim Sullivan! http://www.npr.org/2010/12/09/131936448/jim-sullivan-s-mysterious-masterpiece-u-f-o if you are interested.

I really am beginning to think I made this up or dreamed it.

Best answer: Can you describe what kind of music you think it might be?

Linda Perhacs - Parallelograms?

The video above takes place in Topanga Canyon where she lives if that's the canyon connection.

Couldn't find anything on Metafilter but I found her sometime in the past year too somehow on the web.

....

OK found this post after doing a comment search for "canyon"-- but it didn't come up in a MeFi search for either Parallelorgrams, Perhacs, etc. Is Sift search broken??

Best answer: There's a ton of private-press stuff along these lines getting reissued these days, lots of it championed by freak-folk types. If not Vashti Bunyan, maybe Judee Sill or Linda Perhacs or Collie Ryan?

Is there anything else you remember about it? Male or female or multiple singers? What kind of instrumentation? Song titles or snippets of lyrics?

Response by poster: AAAAAAAAAAAnd thefool and box have it -- it's Linda Perhacs (Parallelograms). Thanks, folks.
