I need a (soft) condensed matter physics textbook.

I'm working on a research project using particle tracking microrheology to characterize the viscoelastic behavior of biological systems, and it's become apparent that my background in soft condensed matter physics is lacking. I would like to find a textbook with a good introduction to viscoelastic behavior (moduli, etc) and things like shear thinning.

Maybe check out Amazon reviews of books listed in course syllabi, like these or those? Or do you have access to any science/physics databases through a college/university library? Usually you can limit your search to document type = book review.

I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but a bunch of that is in Ron Larson's book, which is slightly dry, but quite good.

Best answer: Cell Mechanics, Volume 83 (Methods in Cell Biology) has a nice introductory chapter that covers soft matter rheology (plus very relevant further chapters by the field's superstars). I recently looked through Soft and Fragile Matter: Nonequilibrium Dynamics, Metastability and Flow, which collects notes from a summer class intended for newcomers. Finally, I have a number of great .pdf reviews of rheology basics that I'd be happy to forward (my research is quite similar to yours).
