Question: DivX to DVD util needed

I need a XP utility to convert some DivX files onto a DVD for my friends. Seeing that the quality is about the same as VHS, I would like to fit in as much as possible on a DVD without loosing even more quality.
Any cool tools out there?

Herte's how you get crazy length on a single-layer dvd:

1. convert to mpeg2-- I recommend tmpgenc for a job like this. Be sure to use virtualdub to strip the auido and use the .wav file as your audio source. Convert at minimum permissable bitrate (I think it's 2000 kps, but tmpgenc will give you a range if you select dvd).

2. Author dvd in favorite program with the mpeg2 files you have created in the previous step. Put 3 hours (no problem) to 3 1/2 hours (possible quality loss in the next step) of video in, not worrying about whether you're over the disc capacity. Save it as a VIDEO_TS folder instead of burning it.

3. Use DVDShrink to get the output folder down to the necessary size. Burn the output of this to dvd with Nero.

Or, diko could do it all for you.....

The latest Nero will do this for you all automagically. My copy was bundled with my Sony DL drive.

krisjohn, have you compared the results from Nero with manual results? Nero's avi to VCD conversion was exceptionally bad. They've had ample time to improve their conversion-- I'm just waiting for someone to tell me that they have.

Looks like Diko is working for me. I also tried to upgrade my Nero, but I will use it to burn the DVD only.

Thanks Everyone!

You can do this manually as Stevejensen says, but you may have problems: I tried this with a VidX file and the audio was out of sync; I had to strip it out and manually resync it, which is a pain. I've tried a couple of programs and I like DVDSanta: it is easy to sue and can also do a digital camcorder to DVD conversion quickly and easily. The quality is pretty good too, and it's onyl $30...
