The other boy in the plastic bubble film

I'm trying to track down the name of a movie about a "boy in the plastic bubble" that's not the John Travolta or Jake Gyllenhaal version.
This is what I remember:
I saw it sometime in the 80s, and I vaguely remember that at the end of the film the kid was around 12 years old, living in the bubble because of some sort of disease
I also remember that, because of some contrivance in the plot, his father, who was never around, promised him that he would visit in x number of days. The kid in turn composed a rather depressing song on a guitar that went something like: "10 days to go / and time has passed", "9 days to go", etc.
Finally, at the end, the father never shows up and the kid escapes the bubble, crossing through a back alley filled with trash cans, and dies.

Oops, sorry, I misunderstood.

There was a Seinfeld episode that satirized the "boy in the bubble" theme.

The age of the bubble boy doesn't match but there's also the 1986 film Corazón de cristal.
