Can you help me come up with a NIN-related pun for a cross stitch pattern?
A dear friend's birthday is coming up soon, and I want to make him some cross stitch to hang on his wall. I've been trying to come up with something more fun than simply stitching some lyrics, and ideally something that plays with the conventions of samplers ("Home Sweet Home" etc), but will be equally happy with an amusing pun. He is the most hardcore Nine Inch Nails fan I've ever met, so I imagine he'll pick up on any obscure references.

I love Greg Nog's idea with the kitten. Bear in mind that samplers rarely if ever reference the process of cross-stitching, so needle/stitch puns aren't necessary.
If you haven't already seen Steotch, check it out for inspiration - I don't think they have any NIN designs, but their samplers are overall cleverly-designed and hilarious.

I don't think I can beat "You are the perfect hug". I was coming in to say you could stitch something kitchen themed, with "I burnt myself today", but "you are the perfect hug" is killing me.

Best answer: Oh my, "you are the perfect hug" is awesome.
I would also suggest taking any of the NIN songs with PFP and replacing "fuck" with "hug".

Something to do with the line, "The needle tears a hole / the old familiar sting" could be fitting, but I can't think of what.

Best answer: A nicely-stitched "You're Going To Get What You Deserve" almost reads like a traditional cross-stitch homily, but would be very evocative to a NIN fan.
Bonus points: make an angel with a halo and underneath in tiny letters caption it "Halo 3".

It's too bad this isn't a pillow (the Great Pillow).
Hrmm, if he's a Year Zero fan (there's an odd split with some on whether they're for The Fragile and everything before it, or The Fragile and everything after it...or just The Fragile and nothing else) you could incorporate this logo into your pattern. Maybe with "My voice just echoes off these walls" or "God money nail me up against the wall"
(side note: Odd seeing the lyrics online so many years after, I always thought it was "Got Money")

Response by poster: Metafilter, you never fail to impress. Quite a few of these made me laugh out loud, I'm going to have a hard time picking which one to use, though I am inclining pretty strongly toward "Head like a Hole Sweet Hole".

What a stellar friend you are. While you're at it, can you make one for me? I'm late to the party, but been thinking about this all day. I really, really like the 'hang in there' cat with the Down In It lyrics, but here's what I've got to add to the mix:
-"I drink the honey inside your hive / You are the reason I stay alive" with a something like this (or Winnie the Pooh related, must spell it "hunny" though)
