Name that tune.

I have a tune in my head. I can't identify it, so I videotaped myself whistling, in the hopes that one of you could.

(please do not make fun of either how off key I am or my unkempt hair, tia)

I liked that you included the outtake at the beginning. Outtakes are always my favorite part of every film!

Back in tha day, when I was a DJ (the two turntable and a microphone type) I used to open my jungle sets with DJ SS's own take on that melody. BOOOOYAAAKAAASHAAAAA!

The sad part is that we Googled and talked about this for a long time before posting. I knew that it was from a movie of the late-sixties or early-seventies, by a French composer, and who had also written the soundtrack for a seventies softcore porn film. The composer is Francis Lai.

I'd even looked up info on this guy within the last month or so, due to his name and style being an inspiration for Momus's Laila France side-project album. Silly me for not remembering this.

I've got to recommend the Shirley Bassey version, my favorite version.

I recognized it immediately from those old "Instrumental Magic" compilation ads in the '90s (esp on Nickelodeon), but I didn't remember the title. This song is about 30 seconds in, and that couple embracing by sunset feels so familiar now.

Sporcle has some informative quizzes on instrumental songs that have those "So that's what song's called" moments.
