Whats the weather like in Argentina in April?

I'm going on my honeymoon in Argentina for the first two weeks in April. We'll be spending three days in Mendoza, three days in El Calafate (way down south), and three days in Buenos Aires.

What the heck should I pack for this trip? My snowboarding gear? Shorts and flip flops? All of the above?

For reference, I live in NYC. Thanks hive mind!

Our State Weather Forecast Service has a surprisingly cool site full of weather and climate information for Argentina.

Climate profile of Buenos Aires in April (in Spanish, but easy to follow graphics).

Climate guide to El Calafate (in Spanish, but easy to follow table).

Same as precedent but for city of Mendoza.

Best answer: The weather in Buenos Aires has just flipped literally overnight from high summer to autumn. April here will be in the sunny and in the high teens, low 20s (C) most days with some rain and wind.

Mendoza will be similar, although probably a little colder due to its proximity to the Andes.

El Calafate will be a lot colder. I was there in January (height of summer) and needed 4 or 5 layers beneath a winter jacket, particularly on the day you're visiting the glacier. If you prepare for the worst, you'll be OK and don't underestimate the wind - it's Patagonia and cuts like a knife.

tl:dr Except the extreme Northwest, I wouldn't think you'll be wearing shorts and flip flops (outside) anywhere in Argentina in April.

I live in Buenos Aires, anything else feel free to MeMail me.

jontyjago, I'll be in Argentina (and Chile) throughout May. I'll be the Canadian in shorts.

High teens and low twenties is pretty much "summer" up here. I've been following BsAs weather for the last year online and I can't see a single week when I wouldn't be in shorts. Let the locals be scandalized if they want.
