It's a kids book about a truck driver

Name that kids book: Read in the early '70s, was about a truck, I think a semi, driving through a big snow storm, up and down a mountain.

What I remember most about the book was it's casual description of a system for dumping sand onto the drive wheels of the rig, while it was in motion. I'm pretty sure it was one of those books where each page is about 30% text, 70% picture, but it might have been more text-y than I remember. The sand runs out at one point, but the truck manages to make it.

Are you sure it was about a truck? When I hear about the sand I think of trains.

Response by poster: While I'd say I was 99% sure it was a truck, the fact that I can't find any indication that semi-trucks have similar systems certainly lends credence to mis-remembrance on my part.
