Stoney Tangawizi is sweet sodafied deliciousness. You owe it yourself to try some. If you tell me where I can buy it in New York City, I'll get you a bottle.

Highly doubt you're going to find this in NYC, but if there's one place I'd recommend checking, its the little tea shop / cafe at the back of Chelsea Market, off 9th b/t 15th and 16th - I've never seen Tangawizi there, but I have bought Appletizer there. You might ask if they can special-order, or who they order the Appletizer from.

In terms of actually getting some, your best bet is probably to order online. You might try emailing the guys at Africanhut. They seem to be the primary exporter of African foodstuffs and drink (in particular). I couldn't find Tangawizi, but they do carry Stoney Gingerbeer - I'm not sure if that's exactly the same thing (Tangawizi is the kiswahili word for "ginger" if my vocab recall serves correctly). Here's another exporter you might try.

Worse comes to worst, I could try to bring you some - I'm hoping to be in NYC around Christmas this year.

I bought a few cans of Stoney Gingerbeer last year at Saraga International Grocery in Indianapolis. They tasted about the same as I remember Tangawizi. That doesn't help you a whole lot with NYC but it does show that someone is importing and distributing it in the US and if Indianapolis has something I can only assume it is available in NYC.
