FMNT digital certificates from the Spanish Government

I (a US citizen in Los Angeles), am in the process of applying for a postdoctoral fellowship from the government of Spain (Juan de la Cierva, if it matters). I have completed all of my paperwork and just need to digitally sign the application. Unfortunately, it appears I need a special digital certificate from the Spanish government as I get this error when I check for valid certificate: "No dispone de un certificado de la FNMT vĂ¡lido instalado en el navegador." (I don't have a valide FNMT certificate installed on this browser). Any tips on obtaining an FNMT digital certificate? I don't have a NIF/NIE number as I have not worked in/lived in Spain in the past.

Response by poster: I normally use Chrome, but I switched to Internet Explorer for the sole purpose of attempting to submit this app. I can use chrome, firefox, or IE.

Best answer: How's your Spanish? The process for getting such a certificate is detailed at http://www.cert.fnmt.es/
