Where do I go to enjoy the seedy-chic indie scene in Bristol (UK)?

(I've seen this thread but it's several years old.)

For my autumn holidays this October (yes, I know it's February), I wanted to head to Bristol for a week. I'm a female college student traveling alone and my tastes include secondhand bookshops, low-budget shows in squat basements, and eccentric people combined with sensible amounts of alcohol. I'm not really into crowded clubs that play top-40 hits.

What is there for me to enjoy in that hilly city? Where will I bump into awesome people who'll make my term break more awesome?

Oh ack, I'm terribly old and out of touch now but the areas of Bristol youre looking for are probably places like:

Stokes Croft
St Pauls
Montpelier
St Werburghs

Sites that might point you in the right direction:

Check out Here Gallery in Stokes Croft, and definitely the Cube Cinema, which is also a venue for gigs and all kinds of events. The Croft is also a good place for music.

Around the university area there are some sweet little bookshops and cafes. Check out Cotham Hill and St. Michael's Hill - The White Bear pub on St. Michael's is a bit of an institution.

The Bristol Culture blog will also give you lots of great suggestions.

The Watershed is cool for arthouse films and talks, plus the rest of the harbourside. The book sale in St Nicholas Market just won an award. Stoke Croft for graffiti. Gloucester road for lots of cool shops. Pieminister is a must visit. Hijack Bristol may also be worth a look.

I also contribute to fuckyeahbristol along with saturnine, so I'm biased but that has some posts about stuff happening.
