computer game does not compute

Trying to remember the name of (and possibly get) an old DOS video game I used to play in the mid 1990s, and probably featured a woman as the lead character.

I don't THINK it was Apogee, but it could have been - it was that quality/type of game. It was standard side scroller, and you shifted into different animals as you ate powerups (it wasn't altered beast). I believe I remember the main character to be a woman, but also I'm not positive. I realize its not much to go on but here's to positive thinking!

Best answer: Sounds a little like Jill of the Jungle, although there wasn't a whole lot of transforming. You could turn into a phoenix for a short period of time with a specific powerup. It was published by Epic, but the style was very similar to Apogee games at the time.
