Long distance writing courses

I'd like to take a long-distance writing course. It'd be particularly cool if it were about food writing or travel writing. Wondering if anyone here has experience with a particular course, ideally one that doesn't have fixed hours (in the case of a virtual classroom). Please share your experiences with me!

have no idea as to quality etc. but might be of interest (UK-based but for long-distance learning should not matter: and (I have studied with the Open University and have nothing but words of utter admiration for them!)

Today's Washington DC Groupon is for $20 for $40 towards classes at First Class, Inc, which offers a six week travel online travel writing class. I have no idea if their classes are any good or not, but Groupon linked to this City Paper article about the center.

Best answer: I haven't actually taken the plunge, yet, but I've been strongly considering doing MatadorU - they have courses in travel writing and photography and emphasize writing for the web. Since they are attached to a travel website and a subsidiary of National Geographic, they are able to offer something that the Open U courses can't: leads.

Response by poster: ok, impressed with the MatadorU for travel writing. Anything similar anyone could suggest for food writing?
