WiFi in Red Line DC

Looking for recommendations for a one day telecommuting locale in Washington, DC.

The weather shenanigans this week have resulted in my being in DC on a day I wasn't planning to be there -- and there's work I'll need to do. I'm aware that I can look online for general info, and that a similar question was asked in the summer of 2006. Updated and wintertime recommendations are what I'm after.

My priorities are: free, reliable wifi (including if I buy drinks and snacks periodically over a few hours), and very close Dupont Circle and/or Red Line proximity. Noise is not a huge issue, and I promise I will also not be using my cell phone to irritate others.

Thanks very much! (Anon because my screen name is known, and I would prefer my clients not be concerned about my availability this week.)

My standard answer for this (and it's right on the Red Line!) is the courtyard at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

find a panera, they always have free dependable wifi... there is one less than a block from dupont

also, there is free wifi in dupont circle itself, not sure how dependable.

Yep. Joan's got it. Best place in all of DC to get work done. Make sure you scope out an outlet before sitting down. There are only a few there!

Of course, there are also always coffeehouses. Directly adjacent to the Red Line, there's the very nice Dupont Starbucks, Ebenezers by Union Station, Tyrst near(ish) to Adams Morgan, Pound, Tynan, or Sidamo near New York Avenue, the National Building Museum's courtyard near Judiciary Square (not sure if it has WiFi).

I'm sure there's more.... My #2 suggestion would be Tyrst if you veto Joan's National Gallery suggestion.

seconding tryst (spelled tyrst) above - weekdays (not weekends) it has free wifi, GREAT coffee, good food (veggie and not), a nice walk from the red line or dupont, or a really quick bus ride (directions).

All the suggestions above are good (though Tryst is a bit of a (nice!) walk from Dupont). The first thing that came to mind for me though was Kramers; their Afterwords Cafe has wifi I believe. I wasn't able to find confirmation on their website or yelp, but I've used the wifi before (a while ago?) and I thought I saw people on laptops last time I was there eating. It's right in Dupont Circle and a lovely place to spend a day.

Power outlets are VERY hard to come by in the SAAM Courtyard... I wouldn't count on finding one (I never have). It really is a great place to work, but be sure you have a full battery!

If the walk to Tryst is too much, Open City is just around the corner from the Woodley Park metro (one stop up from Dupont). They're owned by the same people who own Tryst, have free wifi, a good selection of coffee/tea, and don't mind if you camp out during a weekday.

Anyone know if there's wifi at the Dupont Teaism? Because that's a lovely space....

There's definitely not wifi at the DupontTeaism (or at the Penn Quarter one). It is a great space to work though, if one doesn't need wifi.

Open City is lovely but feels more like a restaurant - Tryst has couches and small tables, which I am partial to. Definitely another great option. Same food/beverage choices, plus hot meals (which Tryst does not cook up).
