What is the logo on these coat buttons?

I have also seen this logo on clip-on earrings at a vintage store.

I'm going to go with "PSS" in an ornate script. Could the earrings have been manufactured from buttons?

it does look like PSS, but there's some extra swirl in there.

also, it's not a logo. the proper term for it would be monogram.

I don't know. Maybe if we saw another angle I'd change my mind, but it almost looks like it's just decorative swirly-ness or monogram-esque, not letters.

As someone who plays with calligraphy and letterforms, I don't think it's a monogram. There's no consistency in how the letters are formed, no one (there are examples of this same button on sale on Etsy and Ebay) can agree on what the letters actually are. That's not usually how logos or monograms are designed; even if stylized, you want them to be recognizable or the point is lost. I think it is just a mass produced brass button stamped with a scroll design.

... and by "logo" I'm thinking of a manufacturer who has their logo stamped on their buttons. However, that's really a modern invention because years ago having brand names or recognizable logos on your clothing would have been considered quite tacky, as would a monogrammed button in many cases (try a search, they're very hard to find, and in almost every case a variation of your button is found).

Here's another variant of your button in wood and brass. Here's an actual set of monogrammed buttons. They are quite stylized, but you can still tell what the letters are.

You button still may be that of a particular manufacturer of mass produced clothing, and it may be their monogram. If so, it is not designed for easy recognition of their brand.
