How to negotiate salary in Italy

Please help me negotiate the best salary. As an American working for an Italian company (in Italy)?
I am a mid-career, American professional and after several talks expect to soon be negotiating with a multinational here in Italy. I have relocated on my own, and I'm not sure how to approach the discussion... wondering if I should leave my US expectations far behind (salary levels, benefits, car, phone, perks, etc.).
What requests would be on the table for possible discussion without sounding like an outrageous candidate who didn't bother to research the market (Tuscany, in this case). I'm aware salaries are generally lower here, but how can I make sure I don't lowball myself nor overstep boundaries? I'm still trying to reconcile salaries here with actual cost of living.
Anyone with experience negotiating in Europe - especially Italy or similar economy? Any/all advice would be welcome.
